To all our members, welcome into 2018 and THANK YOU for all you did to help make 2017 one of OCCU’s most successful years! 2017 completed OCCU’s 75th year as a credit union, and we have come a long way, from our first deposits in 1941, to the $360 million in assets and over 29,000 members we have today. Our newest branch, Steamboat Island, opened in the 4th quarter of 2017 and OCCU now operates 8 branches in 4 counties, (Mason, Grays Harbor, King and Thurston).

OCCU’s growth since 1941 is the direct result of three major components, without which we could not have achieved the success we enjoy today. These are: our ongoing commitment to the communities we serve, our skilled employees who dedicate themselves to making a difference every day, and our loyal members providing us with opportunities and challenges to meet their needs.

We fully realize you, our members, have many options when choosing financial services and greatly appreciate you giving OCCU the chance to earn your trust and meet your financial needs and goals. In 2018 we will continue to expand our footprint and, like most credit unions, will grow and remain relevant by promoting the credit union difference: Structure, Value, and Impact.

Structure: Credit unions are not-for-profit cooperatives and the cornerstone of our organization remains, above all, to serve our members’ financial needs.

Value: Direct member benefits reflect the value that comes from placing your trust in a community owned financial institution. Because of our nonprofit status, credit unions lack stockholders and therefore all earnings, in excess of expenses, return to our members in the form of higher interest rates, lower loan rates, and lower fees.

Impact: These direct member benefits aid in building financial strength within the communities we serve. Coupled with this are our ongoing contributions in the community in the form of volunteer hours. In 2017, OCCU staff provided more than 1,600 volunteer hours to over 53 different charities in our local communities and we plan to match and/or exceed this number in 2018.

In closing, thank you again for all you do to make OCCU, your credit union, successful. Your trust, feedback, and use of our products and services all contribute greatly to the position OCCU is at today. You have our firm commitment that we will continue to work diligently, to deserve your business both now and in the years to come. If you love us, spread the word and refer a friend! Each year 46% to 60% of our new members come from existing member’s referrals.

We are here for you every step of the way. In this ever-changing economic climate, know we put you, our members first and will continue to strive to meet your financial goals this year and beyond.
